Work package 6: Optimisation And Standardization Of The
Production Process Of Natural Organic Pigments

Start date or starting event 19 th month
Activity Type RDT/Innovation activities

. Optimisation and standardization of the production process of natural organic pigments.
. Optimisation and standardization of the dyeing techniques, with respect to endurance, aesthetic appearance and quality (= performance) of the dyestuff.
. Codification of the steps involved in the production of natural organic pigments.
. Clarification of obscured and tricky points of the production processes.
. Codification of the impact of the extraction conditions and relative influencing parameters (e.g. mordant metal) on the pigment performance.
. Codification of ageing effects on the pigment performance, with respect to production conditions.
. Relative (preliminary) protocol formulation, for the production of model pigments with optimum properties.
. Evaluation of the conditions of the dyeing procedures and interrelation with the established protocols regarding natural dyestuff-organic pigment production.
. Recommendations on the dyeing techniques having as starting point the ancient techniques.
. Final protocol formulation for the production of pigments with optimum performance, upon dyeing.
. Consideration of semantic issues regarding the processes and the materials involved.
D6.1. Codification of the steps for the production of natural organic pigments.
D6.2. Dyeing procedures using natural organic dyestuffs.
D6.3. Protocol for the production of model pigments with optimum properties. Comments on crucial parameters affecting pigment performance.
. Assessment and optimisation of the parameters affecting pigment performance, including the dyeing procedure. Expected result: Deviations from the ancient recipes might be expected, for the production of "optimum" natural organic pigments.

For STREPs/STIPs each WP must relate to one (and only one) of the following three possible Activity Types: RTD/Innovation activities, Demonstration activities, Management activities.
Milestones are points where major results have successfully been achieved as the basis for the next phase of work, or which serve as control points at which decisions are needed; for example concerning which of several technologies will be adopted as the basis for the next phase of the project.
